Early Life

Martin Luther King Jr. was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, USA. He was the son of a Baptist minister and grew up in a deeply religious and racially segregated society. He attended Morehouse College, Crozer Theological Seminary, and earned a Ph.D. from Boston University in Theology.

Beginning of the Civil Rights Movement

King emerged as a national leader during the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955, after Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white passenger. His leadership in promoting nonviolent resistance became the foundation of the American civil rights movement.
